In recent years, we’ve been inundated with found footage horror movies. Attempting to bring the viewer into the horror movie, these films have begun to lose their luster with bland stories and a predictable formula. Fortunately, horror gaming has stepped up and filled these voids. And, technology is always improving.
Take for example kids playing a haunted house game on the Oculus Rift:
This is one of the most phenomenal pieces of technology I’ve ever seen, but…what could make it even more personal?
Well, our friends at Novus Analytics would like to bring the horror directly to your house via their APP Night Terrors. In a nutshell, the app will map your house and turn it into a horror game. Using only the light from your phone, you then need to find a small child that is being held by demons and save her. No additional technology is necessary besides your phone, and ideas are flowing quickly. Starting out as a one player game, they plan on eventually turning it into a multiplayer world. It can be played in open areas (like out in the forest), but instead of a set game….it becomes more randomized.
How does it work?
Night Terrors uses four major algorithms to see, process, and augment the surroundings. Basically, it sees where the walls are and recognizes if there are obstructions or open areas (like doors). It uses these readings to place creatures around you. In the case of a house, it decides where the girl will ultimately be and place obstacles in your path to her. If the demons get too close, you lose. Your goal is to survive.
Now, every horror fan knows that practical effects are far superior to CGI. Novus Analytics does as well. As the software has been mapped, it is now time to build the creatures. That’s where you come in: The Kickstarter is underway!
In order to create some realistic monsters, the app creators need to hire professional monster makers, buy make up, and write a killer script. Rewards for helping fund the app are downright sick: A simple $5.00 donation gets you the app when it’s released. For $25, the creatures will call out your name to you during gameplay. At $75, you become a beta tester, and for $150 your face is scanned into the game. The big money donation of $10,000 gets you flown to Las Vegas and you will be one of the creatures.
We have 3 weeks folks. Let’s get this app funded!
