CASA (2023) - Deadly Real Estate Market

I hate to say it, but for a website that was started to review horror movies, I haven’t been reviewing too many horror movies. I’ve sort of turned toward movie news, which is fine, but it’s nice to get back to what started it all. Earlier this morning I posted some news about a horror short film named CASA that was available to watch. Well, I did just that and… wow. I was blown away.

CASA (2023) is a 9 minute horror short that tells the story of Teresa (Marta Belenguer), the director of a bank-owned real estate agency, who intends to sell one of the many vacant apartments they own to a couple, unaware that the buyers have an unexpected connection to the property.

The film is not in English, but thankfully if you turn on the captioning on YouTube the captions are in English. That said, even without the captions the filmmaking is done so well that you probably don’t need to know what’s being said to follow along.

This one has it all. It’s got suspense. It’s got some blood and gore and it’s got a story that is relatable – especially in a world with an economy that’s gone to shit the last couple of years. I don’t typically do plot summaries in short films cause, well, it’ll take me longer to type it out than it would to watch the film. Here’s what I’ll say… this is a STRONG recommend and well worth 9 minutes to watch. You’ll be glad you did. Make sure you stick around during the credits. It’ll give you some additional information about the backstory of the characters that, remarkably in 9 minutes, you’ve become invested in.
