HorrorHound Weekend – Chewie’s Bucket List Moments

Robert Englund & ChewieThere’s a TON going on a ScareTissue these days with movie reviews and requests for reviews piling up.  I wanted to make sure that I wrote this recap before I got too far removed from it.  A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to attend the 2013 HorrorHound weekend in Indianapolis.  Pip and I get together a couple of times a year, and this year luck was on our side and HorrorHound happened to coincide with my yearly trip to Indy.  Pip gave an amazing recap to the day’s events so I won’t bother going over most of that again but I wanted to put this together to give a few of my thoughts and to share a slew of pictures that I took at the show.  Apologies in advance for so many pics…

We started our our “horrific” weekend the night before by warming up and watching Freddy Vs. Jason.  We figured this would be a great place to start as the majority of the cast was in town for the show.  I’ll put a review together shortly, but suffice to say I think I enjoy this entry into the franchise(s) better than Pip does.

We got there early (luckily) and stood in line… to get tickets to stand in line… to meet Robert Englund.  We were damn lucky that we were there that early as ultimately we came within 2 tickets of NOT getting to meet Robert.  Knowing what we know now and just how awesome Sir Englund was in person that would have been tragic.

After getting our tickets to see Robert, we took a cruise around the show to get a lay of the land and to see exactly what (and who) was at the show.  I have to say I even though I’d read through the guest list and all the info about the show on the website, I was completely blown away.  First of all, there were a SHIT TON of people here.  Secondly, this was a horror fan’s wet dream.  Simply amazing.

Not only were there a ton of fans there, but there were a slew of actors there from the horror genre.

While Robert Englund was the big draw for most people to this show, one of the actors that I was most excited about meeting was Barry Bostwick.  Most know him from The Rocky Horror Picture Show or Spin City, but to me he’s played one character… Ace Hunter in MegaForce.  If you’re not familiar with that flick, he’s a cheesy 80’s action flick that’s won a slew of awards… unfortunately, they were Razzie Awards.  That said, this is a BRILLIANT film and one that I absolutely love.  It was a complete THRILL to meet Mr. Bostwick and I’m pumped to say that dude was completely awesome.  He signed a pic for me, posed for a picture and chatted me up for a few minutes which really made my day.  I was giddy as a school girl and while I don’t typically get star struck I was shaking for quite a long time afterwards.  GREAT experience.

I wasn’t the only one with a “crush” this weekend.  Corey was a huge Twin Peaks fan so you can imagine his excitement when he saw Sherilyn Fenn sitting at her booth.  She was reserved but gracious and made his day by posing for a pic after he snagged an autograph.  I then had the absolute pleasure of talking with Dan “Leatherface” Yeager for a few minutes.  This guy was awesome, took the time to chat with me for a few minutes about filming Texas Chainsaw 3D, the differences between standard and 3D movie making, the future of Texas Chainsaw and some other upcoming projects he’s got in the pipeline.  It was only a couple of minutes long but definitely a conversation that I’ll remember.  Thanks Dan!  (Follow Dan on Twitter at @DanLeatherface and tell em ScareTissue sent ya!)

And finally… after a long day (which Pip has recapped) it was time to meet Robert.  As I was making my way to the autograph room, I happened to pass by Barry Bostwick’s booth again and who was there but none other then Robert!  I snagged this pic and was off to meet the man himself.  We’d decided to pay for the celebrity photo op so I had a pic of the two of us for Mr. Englund to sign.  Talk about a ball of energy.  This guy had been signing and interacting with his fans for nearly 12 hours and he STILL had the most energy in the room.  He took the time to speak to each and every person who was in his line and never once short changed anyone.  Before I met him I had respect for him for being a horror icon.  After meeting and talking with him for a few minutes, my respect for the man Robert Englund is off the charts.  You could totally tell that he appreciated everyone that came out to meet him and seemed to really enjoy this part of his job.

Sorry for the long winded recap full of pictures.  I’ve got to give huge props to the folks at HorrorHound for putting on a great show.  I know there were some complaints on Twitter about the speed of Robert’s line, etc. but I have to say they did an amazing job for the scope of show and venue they were working with.  For two horror geeks like Pip and I this was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

I've been a fan of horror and slasher movies for as long as I can remember. I consider the original Halloween to be the best horror movie of all time and my guilty pleasure horror flick would be The Exorcist III. You can find me on Twitter at @406Northlane or TikTok @406Northlane where I'm sure I'll offend you at least once a day.
