Lunch Ladies (2017) – Airfare Not Included

For the Lunch Ladies It’s *Airfare Not Included

Lunch Ladies - With Blood

In Clarissa Jacobson’s Lunch Ladies two burnt out high school lunch ladies do whatever it bloody takes on their quest to become Johnny Depp’s Personal Chefs. This short running roughly 18 minutes is a horror / comedy short with a feature behind it. The film is currently on the film fest route having won best horror comedy at South African Horrorfest, Nightmares and Atlanta.

Lunch Ladies – Plot Thoughts & Recommendation

As I said in the intro Lunch Ladies is a horror / comedy that runs just shy of 20 minutes. Many times that means the product skimps on the blood and gore – absolutely not the case here! There’s plenty of blood and gore and it’s done really, really well. It’s written by Clarissa Jacobson and was directed by J.M. Logan. I’ll keep this one relatively spoiler free and let you enjoy it for yourself when you have the opportunity.  I’m not allowed the share the full film yet as its on the awards circuit but I’ll keep in contact with Clarissa and share it when we can.

We follow the aforementioned lunch ladies (played brilliantly by Donna Pieroni and Mary Manofsky) on their quest to become Johnny Depp’s personal chefs. This seems like a sort of weird macguffin but it works really well in the frame of this story. We learn rather quickly that they’re pretty bad at their jobs and are given an ultimatum by the principal – shape up or you’re out.

From here they get involved with a bitchy cheerleader (played to perfection by Daisy Kershaw) and the plot evolves into a bloody good time that is just as cringeworthy as it is beautifully shot. It’s vulgar, it’s silly, it’s gross and it’s well worth the time to watch. You’ll be rooting for the gals by the time it’s over and it comes to an incredibly satisfying ending for everyone (except for the bitchy cheerleader 😉 )

If you get a chance to see this one do yourself a favor and check it out. You’ll be glad you did. Strong recommend. Special thanks to Clarissa Jacobson (a fellow HOOSIER!!!) for providing us access to the film!
