Patricia Chica’s A Tricky Treat (2015) was fun, lighthearted, and oh yeah, completely gross! Just how I like ‘em.
I had the fun honor to screen Patricia Chica’s short film A Tricky Treat today, and being a huge fan of short horror films, I was excited for it! I always commend short horror film directors because they have to pack in a storyline, a scare, and usually dialogue, all in a few minutes! This “Treat” was 3 minutes long, and I watched it a few times as I enjoyed it so much.

The short opens with a family having a lighthearted night, while Dad finishes “work” in the garage. Together, the happy family prepares their “better than last year” jack-o-lantern. We hear giggles and gasps from the group, not unlike my childhood jack-o-lantern carving; with my mother cooking, and my dad and I oohing and awing at the pumpkin guts. Only these aren’t pumpkin guts, and the normalcy portrayed amongst the family is what makes this “short” a fun mix of comical and WTF!
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, due to the surprise in the end, so I will end my review there. Props to Chica for her creativity, and her creepy!
