I was not able to watch The Menu (2022) during its release, but man, it’s such a shame. This movie surprised me in ways I did not expect at all, and it’s good. It’s been a while since a movie exceeded my initial expectations. I guess one of the best things about this movie is its predictability and unpredictability… does that make sense? Let me explain it below, so I can tell you more about my thoughts about this film.
If you’re planning to watch this for your next TV streaming session, all I can say is get ready for a wild ride. Let’s start off with the cast and what I think about them.
The Menu Cast
Aside from the plot, the chemistry of the cast is probably what made this movie successful — at least from my point of view. Ralph Fiennes is simply doing what he does best, commanding the screen with a quiet yet terrifying presence. I felt that Nicholas Hoult could do better, especially since he’s the reason why they got into that situation in the first place.
As for Anya Taylor-Joy, this girl, words won’t be enough to express how I admire her and her performance in this movie. There’s this certain level of coolness, tactless, and fierceness that she brings to Margot that makes her stand out from the rest of the guests.
- Ralph Fiennes as Chef Slowik
- Nicholas Hoult as Tyler
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Margot
- Aimee Carrero as Felicity Lynn
- John Leguizamo as Movie Star
- Judith Light as Anne
- And many more
As of right now, The Menu is already available on several streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and many more. It can also be watched on traditional TV services like on DISH TV packages and others.
Plot
The movie starts with Margot and her date, Tyler, going to an extremely fancy restaurant on a private island. The said restaurant is run by the renowned Chef Slowik who’s known for treating food like high art. Only rich, important people get to eat here and every dish is considered as a part of a planned experience.
At first, everything seems normal—well, if you call tiny, fancy dishes and overly dramatic food speeches normal. But as the courses go on, things start getting really weird. The food isn’t just food anymore. Later on, they realize that it’s part of some twisted message. And unfortunately, it’s not just that. They know that no one will get out of there.
If you’re planning to watch this on mobile via mobile data, make sure you have enough data allowance and coverage. It’s a plus if you have a service provider like Boost Infinite and others on the same level.
Thoughts About The Menu
Before I watched this movie, I already had some expectations in mind as it was recommended to me by a coworker. The initial thought I had in mind was that it was a typical movie. Creepy, yes, but also weirdly funny. If you’re the type of person that makes fun of people who take fine dining way too seriously, you’ll find this movie funny enough.
I loved how the movie built the tension throughout, which then makes you feel just as trapped as the characters. Every course comes with a new revelation or a statement. Slowik is not just a simple chef who cooks delicious food for a living. He’s exposing his guests for who they really are. And the way he does it? It’s cold, calculated, and honestly kind of genius.
Margot, though, is the heart of the movie for me. She’s the only one who doesn’t fall for all the pretentious nonsense, and that makes her such a refreshing character. Watching her challenge Slowik and try to outsmart him was the best part. She’s fearless, but in a way that feels real. She’s not some over-the-top action hero, just a regular person trying to survive.
The Bottom Line
The Menu is a great movie because it was able to balance thriller, satire, and comedy without going over the top. The chemistry of the cast is unbelievable, and of course, the performance was just great. There’s not much to say but it’s worth every minute spent watching the film. I loved it, and I hope you will, too. Happy watching!
