Announcement of new publishing project Afraid of Everything – New book collection seeks to bring true horror literature back to young readers
Los Angeles, October 27th, 2015 – Author Adam Tierney and illustrator Matthieu Cousin are pleased to announce the launch of their new book project, Afraid of Everything. The 64-page hardcover collection includes 26 illustrated short horror stories and poems, each based on a different letter of the alphabet and a different phobia (from Arachnophobia to Zoophobia). The book is targeted at readers age 8 to 16, but could be enjoyed by all ages.
“Matthieu and I wanted to create a collection of horror stories unlike anything else being produced in 2015,” explains Tierney. “Similar to short horror collections of the 80’s and 90’s, like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, each of these single-page stories and poems features genuine risks and danger. Not all of our protagonists make it out of their stories alive.”
The book intends to fill a gap left by the absence of new horror fiction being written for young readers. “There are plenty of spooky and Halloween stories being written each year,” continues Tierney, “but very few HORROR stories are written for kids today. We wanted to create something dangerous and at times genuinely scary like the stories Matthieu and I grew up on. Kids can handle horror, so long as it’s written with them in mind.”
Adam Tierney is a Los Angeles, CA based video game designer and director. Games he’s directed include Til Morning’s Light (2015), Silent Hill: Book of Memories (2012), Aliens: Infestation (2011), Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2010), and LIT (2009). He has also written for television (Teen Titans Go!).
Matthieu Cousin is a Swedish cartoonist whose previous clients include Tribute Games, WayForward Technologies, Catalist Universe, and Cartoon Network.
The crowd-funding campaign for this project (seeking art and publishing costs) runs through Nov 24th at Kickstarter.com. More information and 10-page sample of the book can be found at: www.AoEbook.com.
